Steel Bank Common Lisp

Hello Fellowship of The Compiler,

After a many-hour-long struggle with lord DiskQuota in the evil lands of CSCF. I finally succeded installing SB Common Lisp. Victory came as a surprise when DiskQuota decided to reform his armies and rebuild his indices. Losing his sight of how much of enemy territory I occupied proved to be a fatal mistake and the install succeded.

We now have officially installed order in dark lands previously occupied by DiskQuota.

The governor of those lands will be my much capabale student Steel Bank. His new palace is accessible by windy and dangerous paths. You better know your path before setting out to congratulate him on his new position.

setenv PATH "${PATH}:/u4/dgnidash/lisp/bin"
setenv SBCL_HOME "/u4/dgnidash/lisp/lib/sbcl"

Many dangers await you if you use the wrong shell.

Once you are in the palace, call out "sbcl" to reach Steel Bank.

The shadows are still whispering in the dark corners of the world. Evil is not dead. We might suffer a set back to our early and fragile victory from Evil Permissions.

I'll be giving the ol' girl a go in a moment.

Btw, you mean Steel Bank right?

Anyways thanks for the update Dim.

I mean, many thanks Lord Gnidash. Your efforts are much appreciated and shall not go unnoticed. We shall demolish these shadows and chase them to the darkest corners of the galaxies if we must! The Fellowship shall prevail!

I set forth to seek out Steel Bank but I have been blocked by the Evil Permissions. I can call out "sbcl" yet the evil ones block access to the actual paths I must follow.

Ok, I tried to stay in character, but I can't. It would appear I can run sbcl by specifying its exact path, but it gives me an error:

% /u4/dgnidash/lisp/bin/sbcl
fatal error encountered in SBCL pid 13127:
can't find core file

I also don't have no permissions to read any of the directories under /u4/dgnidash, and this is probably part of the problem. It's odd that I can read the exec but not the path. We probably need group permissions. Dimmy, I suppose you could set permissions for all users to read/write/exec stuff in your lisp/* directories, but I don't know if thats wise.

Scratch that, I had a typo in the the SBCL_HOME variable. Upon setting it correctly I still have permission errors.

SBCL runs, but craps out immediately with the following error:
could not open file "/u4/dgnidash/lisp/lib/sbcl/sbcl.core"
open: permission denied

After our LS scouts have returned informing me of many legions of Evil Permission on the outposts of once great city of Inode, I was in despair. Situation seemed hopeless. Lukily for the lands of Lispiania, Honourable general CHMOD has arrived with his many strong knights. Evil Permissions stood no chance! We were once vicotorious in our Quest to free young and old folk of Lispiania alike.

Last night I had exhausted the town's resources. We had far too much debt to pursue this expedition.

Luckily, after many hours of negotiation; I was able to transfer some good fortune from my home town to alleviate the debt that I lay forth upon this town.

Success! I have communication with the Steel Bank with Lord Gnidash! Thanks the heavens! Another blow for Good!
